To Be Me
In a people pleasing life
She struggles to be herself.
The life she lives is not her own
But she tries to manage~
Seeing there is a world out there
Other than the one portrayed to her.
She is curious, thirsty, scared, and cautious.
In the attempt to be what is expected ~
She criticizes herself for being human~
Reprimands her actions of fun~
Dismisses her right to live life.
In the end sleeping beauty
Searches for her feather pillow…
To rest her heavy heart;
For the podium to scream
“Stop please let me be me
Your expectations are too inhumane;”
A hammer to tear down the pedestal…
“Don’t put me up here
It’s lonely and cold;”
Glasses to show everyone
That this is her ~
A human being embracing the journey of life,
Walking the smooth and bumpy path
Coming to the crossroads choosing
The one for her
Which only she knows.
A human being, being the most beautiful
And unique person that she can be,
For there is only one of her.
A human being simply wanting
Support in decisions,
Love with out conditions,
A place to go
When it’s too much
To cry, laugh, reflect,
Repair, and rest.
